Cook Assistant / Kitchen Porter / Waiting

Cook assistant/kitchen porter role:

Ensure basic cleaning jobs are carried out as quickly as possible.
Collect and wash up pots and pans.
Clean food preparation areas and equipment, in addition to crockery and cutlery.
Unload food and equipment deliveries.
Keep the storeroom organised.
Keep work surfaces, walls and floors clean and sanitised.

In addition to keeping the kitchen sparkling clean, Kitchen Porters can be involved in food preparation. Smaller kitchens will task kitchen porters with preparing salads or some desserts.

Waiting role:

Attending daily or regular meetings with managers to learn about menu changes and occasional menu specials
Waiting for the customers to place their orders and answering any questions about the menu items, ingredients and the occasional menu specials
Writing down the customers’ orders and passing them to the kitchen staff for preparation
Delivering food items and drinks to the tables, inquiring to see if the customers are satisfied and fetching additional courses if necessary
Preparing cheques for customers and processing payments through cash or credit card and returning any balances.
