Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to create a warm and welcoming environment for boarders is required for a well-established Independent School in Dorton, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

This role would ideally be suited to those considering a career in education and/or sport. Candidates will need to be educated to a Degree level or equivalent.

SALARY: Competitive + Benefits

LOCATION: Dorton, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

JOB TYPE: Full-time, One Year Fixed Term Contract (Term Time Only)

CONTRACT DATES: 1st September 2021 to 31st August 2022

WORKING HOURS: 40 Hours per Week (40 Weeks per Year) – some evening hours to support school events and to assist in the Boarding House.

JOB OVERVIEW

The School is looking to appoint a Graduate Teaching Assistant who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to create a warm and welcoming environment for boarders.

Working with the Boarding Team, the Graduate Teaching Assistant will help with the older pupils on the boarding wing, in the classroom and/or on the sports field. Demonstrating prowess on the Xbox, participating in the table football league, chatting over pizza and a DVD or simply making toast and muffins for pre-bedtime snacks, you will have a genuine understanding of the life of a boarder.

As the Graduate Teaching Assistant, the day-time curriculum will enable you to demonstrate your natural skills and talents, whether this is in the classroom or on the sports field, supporting teachers to deliver an exciting curriculum that engages the pupils and encourages them to aim high.

SCHOOL

The School is an established co-educational Preparatory School for around 260 children aged 3 - 13+ set in a beautiful Jacobean mansion with its own thirty-acre estate in the heart of the Buckinghamshire countryside just twenty minutes from Oxford, Thame and Aylesbury.

The School has expanded significantly over the last fifteen years and invested heavily in its infrastructure and support systems. We aim to give every child the firmest possible grounding in the core academic subjects, within a small caring family community where children both know each other and all of the staff.

DUTIES

As the Graduate Teaching Assistant your duties will include:

Assist as part of a duty rota with the supervision of boarders’ clubs, activities and the bedtime routine

Assist with the wake-up and the breakfast routine

Lead activities and clubs (suited to your skills) for pupils

Work closely with the Head of Boarding and other boarding staff to create a warm, welcoming and family atmosphere within the House

Help staff deliver the School’s Wrap-around Care provision

Assist teaching staff with classroom activities and project work

Assist with administrative tasks

Participate in the duty rota for supervising pupils at break, lunch and other times, as required

Accompany pupils and staff on educational visits e.g. museums and camping expeditions

Assist and lead in the daily Games Coaching sessions

Provide Lifeguarding cover at the swimming pool during PE, Games and Activities during the summer months (training will be arranged for you)

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

Educated to Degree Level or equivalent

GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths

Ability to work as part of a team

Able to independently manage workload and to apply good time management and organisation to work

Good ICT skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office suite of products

A flexible approach and a willingness to participate in all activities

Reliable and honest

Ability to work independently

Have good written and oral interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to develop good relations with staff and pupils and the wider school community

Desirable

Emergency First Aid at Work (or equivalent)

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (or equivalent)

Recent experience of working with children age 3-11

Recent experience of teaching or coaching abilities, and an eye for detail
