Chef de Partie for Independent Islington Pub

We are looking for a Chef de Partie to join the team of our busy independent pub in Islington.

£11.50 per hour plus a bonus scheme

Full or part time.

The Earl of Essex is a well-established, busy craft beer pub off the beaten track in the backstreets of Islington. It has a cosy interior with a nice wooden horseshoe bar and a spacious suntrap back garden, attracting both workers and locals, with people coming for the food as much as for the extensive craft beer selection. Expect a brisk weekday and Sunday lunchtime trade and a consistently bustling evening rush.

We serve the best beers we can get our hands on, complimented with a seasonal food menu focussing on updated pub classics using high quality produce. Alongside some core classic dishes there is plenty of room for creativity, changing most of the menu on a quarterly basis and having rotating specials in between.

Week-day lunchtimes attract a good crowd of local office workers, especially on Fridays, which is steadily increasing as people return to offices in the area. Most evenings are busy from 6-10pm with a good amount of bookings vs walk-ins, and a high percentage of tables eating. Sunday roasts are very popular and bring in a good chunk of the week’s food sales. Service is relaxed and informal and there is a mix of table service and bar service, retaining the traditional pub feel whilst serving high quality food and drinks.

You will be working in a small team with a very experienced Head Chef who is keen to train and develop people. Whilst some kitchen experience is required, we are happy to train and develop the right candidate, and we are hiring mainly on the basis on enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
