Ofcom is the regulator for communications services that people use and rely on every day. One of our roles is to report on the availability of fixed and mobile services so that consumers can be better informed in choosing the provider that is most suitable for them. This information is also used to inform policymakers within Ofcom and across government, about the availability of communications services across the UK.

We report on this in the Connected Nations report. We publish an annual report and two updates a year.

There are a growing number of communications providers of different sizes, some that have services across much of the UK and others that might have a network that serves a small community. The services are also provided across a variety of network technologies, such as fixed, mobile and other wireless technologies. We use our formal powers to request this information from these communications providers.

Purpose of the Role

The stakeholder engagement officer is the first point of contact with our stakeholders for the purpose of collecting data for the Connected Nations report. This includes helping to answer stakeholder's queries about our process and making sure their data is submitted on time.

In addition, they will also be responsible for monitoring industry developments. This includes identifying new providers that should be included in our request and keeping track of the various government schemes supporting rollout. They will also support the Project Manager in liaising with our stakeholders, including bodies that make use of our data.

What will I be working on?

As a stakeholder engagement officer, you will: Act as a key point of contact between stakeholders and Ofcom, on the phone and by email Track the progress of data submission from our stakeholders and escalate risks Collate information about new providers Monitor government-funded broadband roll out schemes and the providers contributing to these Support the Connected Nations team, contributing to our reports and data updates. What qualifications and experience will I get?

This is an apprentice role and you will be expected to work towards a Level 3 Business Administration qualification over the two-year programme. In addition, we will also provide you with support and training to build the skills needed for this role.

Qualifications

If you have not already achieved Level 2 English and Maths, you will be expected to gain these qualifications before the end of your apprenticeship.

This is an entry-level role for an apprenticeship scheme. If you have an undergraduate degree and are interested in joining Ofcom, please consider our graduate scheme or other advertised roles.
